Successes

The Harry K Foundation started modestly in 2013, working to feed children in Sussex County. We have since grown to meet needs as they arise, including partnering with other organizations and creatively reaching children during the Covid pandemic, and we now feed children throughout the entire state of Delaware. A selection of some of our successes follows:

  • We established and continue to fund 51 pantries in schools and facilities throughout the state of Delaware.
  • We fund 601 food backpacks for children to provide food over the weekends, holidays, and summer.
  • The Delaware Departments of Education and Health and Human Services identify remote locations that are lacking in basic needs. We worked with the Food Bank of Delaware to implement a Mobile Pantry Program, the Desert Oasis Feeding Program, to reach children living in the areas of need.
  • We provide emergency nutrition for 200 infants and toddlers each month at the Lewes-Rehoboth Community Center Baby Pantry.
  • We contribute to the nutritional needs of children whose parents are part of the Warrior Community Connect, which is an organization for wounded veterans and their children in Delaware.
  • In addition to donations, we actively pursue and receive grants to support our monetary base for feeding the children.
